Pregnancy Ultrasounds
No preparation is required.
Dating scan – this is to give you a due date, (Estimated date of delivery for your pregnancy) and to confirm your due date, when you are unsure.
Nuchal Translucency scan ( First Trimester Combined Screening)
This scan must be performed between 12 and 13 weeks, 6 days. This is risk assessment is made by combining the nuchal translucency measurement with your age, and other factors like the blood test. Your midwife will explain the test and will give you the result.
Morphology Scan – Is performed at 20-21 weeks, and is performed to assess the growth of the baby and it’s development. This is the time we will be able to tell whether your baby is a Boy or Girl.
Growth scan – to check that your baby is growing appropriately, on a normal growth curve.
Upper Abdominal Ultrasound
Drink water or clear fluids only, we will always try to schedule these studies in the morning so that you can have a late breakfast.
An abdominal ultrasound assesses the liver, aorta, pancreas, gallbladder, spleen and kidneys. It is often the first examination performed when someone is having abdominal problems.
Renal Ultrasound
A full bladder is needed, drink at least a litre of fluid and do not go to the toilet before the scan.
A renal ultrasound assesses your bladder and kidneys. A full bladder hydrates the kidneys and allows us to see the bladder wall well and how well your bladder empties.
Pelvic Ultrasound
A full bladder is needed, drink at least a litre of fluid and do not go to the toilet before the scan.
The pelvic ultrasound assesses the uterus and ovaries. Unless clinically inappropriate an internal (transvaginal scan) is considered best practice as part of the pelvic assessment.
Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
The fine detail of muscles and tendons and ligaments can be assessed our high frequency ultrasound probes.
Vascular Ultrasound
No preparation is required.
Our state of the art machines assess blood flow in the arteries and veins, using Doppler ultrasound.
This is good for arterial blockages and venous clots and varicose veins.
Small Parts Ultrasound
No preparation is required.
Ultrasound is very good at assessing the soft tissues of the breast, glands and testes.
Steroid Injections
A diagnostic scan is performed first to assess the suitability of this treatment for you.
Ultrasound can be used to “guide” needles into parts of the body, such as tendons sheaths and bursae making a quick and accurate treatment.
